Overlooking Piedmont Park currently stands Skate Escape, the oldest skateboard and roller skate shop (open since 1979). Plans recently emerged to adaptively reuse and expand the current building’s footprint to include one of my favorite BBQ spot’s third location, Das BBQ as well as retail/conference space likely including Skate Escape (rendering below) according to Midtown Alliance. I’m very hopeful to see this structure stick around and preserve the neighborhood fabric. The building was originally an Amoco gas station!
