While I was biking with my friend Michael through the Westside portion of the BeltLine, we happened upon two nice women sitting on the bench…
While talking with them about how cool it was to see families, bikers, walkers and children using the trails and parks as they enjoy the benefits of intown living, she revealed she was the past Mayor, Shirley Franklin! Mayor Franklin helped to acquire the necessary funding and support to push the project through, and had a major role in the project.
We had an awesome conversation, and made me very grateful to be an Atlantan! The BeltLine is bringing so much value to our city… It will ultimately connect 45 intown neighborhoods via a 22-mile loop of multi-use trails, connecting 40 parks, adding over 1,200 acres of new or expanded parks, as well as improvements to over 700 acres of existing parks, while creating countless jobs and incredible revitalization, to only mention a few things.
Our city is so incredible, and will only be even cooler in the future.. It was great meeting her, and I encourage everyone to check it out.
