Edgewood

Edgewood is located 3 miles east of Downtown, bound on the north by Dekalb Avenue, on the south by Memorial Drive, and on the east by Montgomery Street, Woodbine Avenue, and Rogers Street. Not many know, but Edgewood was it’s own city prior to be annexed in 1909. Edgewood was developed heavily during Atlanta’s reconstructive boom (1875-1910), built primarily for blue collar folks commuting on the rail line/streetcar to work downtown.

Most homes in Edgewood today are craftsman bungalows, unlike the neighboring Candler Park and Kirkwood, but not for long as new modern construction homes, townhomes and condos become built. There continues to be lots of development activity in recent years, currently there is an old trolley rail in the process of being built to connect with the BeltLine.

Edgewood Retail District

Edgewood commercial shopping center is a 44 acre mixed-use village located in Northeast Edgewood off Moreland Avenue, bordering Little Five Points. Built by Sembler on old Atlanta Gas Light land, it is made up of 531,287 sqft of retail, including Lowe's, Target, Best Buy, Kroger, Barnes & Noble, Office Depot, Bed Bath & Beyond, Petco, Ross Dress for Less, and my personal favorite (sorry Grindhouse) is Five Guys Burgers and Fries.

Proximity

To the south, Edgewood is half a mile from two entrances to the Beltline – Wylie St and at Maudlin St, (via Arkwright Place and Flat Shoals Avenue). To the north is the Edgewood/Candler Park MARTA station. The neighborhood borders I20 and Moreland and Dekalb Avenues for about a 10 minute drive to Downtown, Midtown or Decatur.
